SRO for water utilities

IoT waterworks operation with GSMCloud system that controls, monitors and regulates as needed

SRO with GSMCloud

Introduction

SRO (control, regulation and monitoring) is the foundation of modern waterworks. The system monitors and controls critical processes such as water intake, filtration, pressure regulation and pump activation. Efficient SRO monitoring ensures stable water quality, optimal energy consumption and fast response to faults.

Traditional SRO vs. Cloud-based SRO

Traditionally, SRO systems are installed locally with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) or SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), where data logging and control takes place on-site. Cloud-based SRO solutions with GSM connectivity offer: Remote monitoring via the mobile network (NB-IoT/Cat-M1) without the need for a fixed internet connection. Centralised data collection in the cloud, giving access to real-time data from multiple water utilities on one dashboard. Scalability and easy integration of new metering points without extensive physical infrastructure.

GSM as communication

GSM modules in SRO devices make it possible to send sensor and pump data directly to the cloud platform. Benefits include: Independence from local internet connection, which is critical in areas with limited network coverage. Automatic alarms and push notifications for critical values (e.g. pressure drop or increased water consumption).

Cloud platforms

In the cloud, data from all devices is collected and visualised in dashboards with: Graphical trends and history of water pressure and flow. Analysis tools for preventive maintenance. Possibility to trigger automatic actions, e.g. start/stop of pumps or regulation of valves. Data sharing with external parties such as municipal authorities, operators or consultants.

Security and compliance

GSMCloud SRO solutions must be implemented with: Encryption of data (TLS/SSL) during transfer to the cloud. Access control and authentication for operators. Compliance with data retention rules and any local environmental and drinking water regulations.

Benefits for the water utility

Reduced costs for local servers and maintenance. Quick error identification and reduced downtime. Remote support and monitoring of multiple locations from one place.

How can GSMCLOUD be used for water supply?

With GSMCloud you can easily monitor water supply and see consumption in real time. Get a full overview of water pressure, consumption, leaks and water quality directly from your mobile, tablet or computer. The system sends alerts for critical changes so you can react quickly and avoid problems. With data logging and analytics, you can optimise water management, reduce resource consumption and ensure more efficient and sustainable water use.
